2010 NC State Commit: Thomas Teal

Position: DT
School: Marlboro County (Bennetsville, SC)
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 330
Class: 2010
Stars: Scout and Rivals 3-Stars
Status: Commit
Offers: NC State, Baylor, ECU, Duke, South Carolina State and Illinois

Biography:

Thomas Teal's Marlboro County Bulldogs have been a dominating force down in South Carolina. Going into last season the they had won three straight regional championships. Last season the Bulldogs were 10-4 last season and finished 2nd in their region (3-2) behind Crestwood, who went 5-0 in region play. NC State commit Thomas Teal tallied 70 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks and three forced fumbles, and helped lead the Bulldogs to a #21 ranking within the state of South Carolina.

Teal is a consensus 3-Star player who hauls a lot of weight at a pretty good pace (5.5 40-Time). This '10 sleeper impresses most scouting analysts with his speed and agility for a young man who is carrying 330lbs. ESPN (#39 DT) and Rivals (#41 DT) see something special in Teal that Scout (#75 DT) apparently isn't seeing. Teal shows a good ability to get in the backfield and running backs and quarterbacks might want to watch out, because 330lbs packs a pretty mean punch.

ESPN has a free video video of Teal that you can watch. Click here.

330 LBS is a big boy for DT but sounds like he moves around well. Thats the second big DT (Randolph) TOB has gone after, and if you look at his past record (Raji) he really can mold them into pro DT.

Marlboro County and Bennetsville are in SC, not GA. Its on the NC / SC border below laurinburg, nc.

This is by far the best site for info on the pack. I used to read statefansnation.com but its just too negative. Thanks for all the hard work for football/ basketball. For what its worth, I would read baseball too. As soon as I get paid again, i'll make sure to contribute. You guys are great. Keep up the great work. Best NC State blogs out there!!

What a great site indeed. For every 5 $ folks can't pony up, and I should no a thing or two about it since being laid off recently, try and tell atleast one person about the site.

Network it and let's see if we can't get as many positive voices visiting here. This site can help change the culture of NC State that whether people admit or not is slightly damaged.

Anyone want to discuss a change to 3-4 D philosophy with Coach Archer here at State then have at it. I'd love to debate it though I respect any decision Coach O'Brein makes.

Thinking of it because we will have Mageo back hopefully next season and Thomas Teal, the big recruit from SC mentioned hear, in tow as well. Raynard Randolph will have to resign his LOI this spring and then he will most likely become an instant player up front.

IMO the 3-4 pro's out weigh the con's. I don't know why more teams don't do it. Archer coached under Debeux? for the Steelers so I thing the system of the 3-4 would make a lot of sense. Plus we are going to be HEAVY and talented at LB next season and you need your best play makers on the field at all times.

FYI - Mike Archer and Dick Lebeau were only together on the Steelers staff for one season.

Archer coached LB's in Pittsburgh from 1996 to 2002.

LeBeau coached DB's from 1992-94, then was defensive coordinator in 1995 & 1996 before moving to Cincinnati as DC/asst head coach. He returned to Pittsburgh in January 2004.

    Good spot Anon.

Looks like our man Cower gave the reigns to Jim Haslett, another 3-4 employer who relies heavily on the blitz.

I'd rather the guys not have to learn a new defensive scheme if they don't have to. There's something to be said for consistency in scheme.
