14 Responses to "Quick Hits From Third Scrimmage"CARTER AND GOOD INJURED???? This scrimmage hurt us more than it help!!
Again Manning is proving he needs playing time!!
3 INT and only 76 yards rushing... Hopefully our Def is just really fast....
It's like I have been saying on multiple Wolfpack websites. Terrell Manning is going to be nasty! Our other LB's are great as well, but let's give Manning the playing time he deserves.
74-I have been on the same train of thought with Manning. His stats are noticably abscent. I may be wrong, but I think that TOB and Co. Are keeping the Manning/Maddox race close to the vest. That tells me that they are both more than capable, and I believe that Manning will emerge victorious. If Maddox is a small drop-off from Manning then our two-deep at Irving's position is looking better and better.
Cole continues to show great promise. I'm looking forward to seeing his game.
The Goode injury hurts our depth, but is not devestating. We are building depth along the line and I still think that we'll be a much improved O-Line over last year.
Mario Carter. That is disappointing. He was a huge factor in an Offense that would love to have a few 2 TE sets with Bryan and Mario blocking and/or running routes. We still have Bryan, thank God. I can't think of the other TE's on the roster. Maybe someone can refresh my memory.
The running stats are a bit disturbing, but again, we don't know how effective (I'm guessing very) the combo of Cash, Young, Manning and/or Maddox and Michel were.
More later?
So is GOOD will be redshirted i assume?
I don't think you have to worry about Manning's playing time. The players that produce will be on the field. And he produces.
Video of Coach O'Brien's interview will be up shortly.
He did mention the fact that Good was going to more than likely redshirt this season anyway, but the injury is still bad news.
Carter isn't out for the season at this point. He just said he would miss the opener for sure.
Coach did mention that Carter would be having surgery on his knee this week and we should know more on his prognosis soon.
Also...
Ward punted 4 times for an average of 42 yards.
Czajkowski made a 37 yard field goal and missed one from 43 yards.
Sorry, WPP. I think that I 'assumed' the worst with Mario. Call it Pavlov's theory! Good to know that there is a chance of his return.
Matt Kushner is a SR at Tight End that will see significant time.
Yeah Kushner will see more feild for sure, to assuming he would have played even with a healthy Mario Carter. Hopefully he can rest up and be ready for Pitt. I agree the Good injury hurts, but not in the grand scheme of the starting line this year. Apparently its a pre-existing injury that the staff was well informed about and really didnt shock anymore.
Extremly happy with Wards punts, wiht our def, pinning the offense in their zone will be cruital. Remember archers rule of bend dont break. WPP can elaborate but this scrimage was very situational, alot more pressure on the decisionmaking of the qb/def and this can contribute to the low running game stats. I get the feeling TOB is happy with his RB core entering the season.
Video of Coach O'Brien answering questions last night is up...
Agreed Pack Leader...Kushner would have seen substantial playing time this season regardless. He is a big body and can hold his own on the line. He fits great in a system that likes to play two TE's.
It will be hard not to give Asa Watson a serious look a TE player as true frosh.
The kid is an incredible athlete and has done exceptionally well academically. Gaining the knowledge he needs to be productive through studying the play book and taking in the Coaches lessons should not be a giant hurdle.
This injury, though truly unfortunate, may open the window for Watson to step in and be a playmaker right away. I would not put it past him to be the Graham of this years class in terms of instant impact.
