Will Nate recieve an extra year even though he's already redshirted?

Short answer: No. A player who takes a non injury related redshirt, as Irving did his freshman year, would not be eligible for an additional redshirt year because of an injury. There can be a petition submitted for a medical hardship for an additional year, but this is usually only approved for an athlete who basically misses 2 full seasons because of the same injury (Pinkney from ECU was approved for this and I think Toney Baker would be eligible since he essentially missed two seasons, and did not red shirt his freshman year). Ben Mauk is the example last year that comes to mind of how the NCAA would not grant an extra year. I think Nate would fall into this category. Nate will be able to play next year as a Redshirt senior.

Too bad for Nate. Really is going to take alot of internal strength to stay focused enough to rehab for a whole year but it can be done and he will be back next year stronger and faster than ever, out to prove hes a top LB in the nation.

    Great news about...

    -the rushing attack gaining 150
-The top Def leaders all are linebackers, Michel,Cole, manning
-Czajcowski back on point kicking after being sloppy the last scrimmage.
-Too bad for proctor but use a red shirt and come back strong and smart

I believe we just witnessed Manning take control of the lone available LB spot... As i expected he would... hes a beast!

    Great job WPP!!!

Wait, I thought that if you missed a certain % of games that you would be granted a medical redshirt, regardless of a previous redshirt.

I don't think the redshirt issue should be a huge concern. Nate will be in the NFL after next season regardless of extra eligibility.

I just saw an article on how 15 Duke player have swine flu. It occurred to me, this could really impact college football this year.

Sorry to hear that NI will not have a game in '09-10 season to look forward to. Good luck to Nate on a speedy and full recovery.

On the front of moving on as a D it is going to be very exciting to watch the development of these young LB's. Could players like Cole and Manning be high caliber All ACC players in the making? A huge opportunity for them to take center stage and prove themselves.

Ev getting hurt is a downer. Whats an Labrium? He probably was going to be 4th on the depth chart after the walk on in state player.

Huge, huge development on the enrollment of the DE Lemon. It will be very hard for him to get used to the system fast enough to be able to make an impact against USC- but you never know. Curious to know if he has 3 to play 2 of just 2 years left. He will be crucial for sure next year when we lose 2 SR DE's.
