Tom O'Brien Interview After Practice #3
Notes From The Interview:
-"The huddle is much better because of the fact that you have two kids running the huddle now. They've been in the program, we're getting in and out, we're getting to the line of scrimmage and things are happening.
-"Manning playing inside looks like a pretty good move right now."
-"Today was our first hot day and I don't think that we handled it very well. Guys are cramping up a little bit and feeling sorry for themselves because its hot, but we have to learn to push through days like this.
-O'Brien stated that currently Asante Cureton is 2nd behind Audie Cole: "He's a walk-on that's done a real good job for us. He knows the defense and he has some power.
-Talking about Sterling Lucas: "Well he got in the football game and got to play a little bit. That really helps you. He's somebody that took it into Spring practice and he was much better as he progressed in the Spring. You can tell he is so far ahead of where he was at this point last year. It's all a matter of comfort and confidence."
-When discussing the depth of the secondary O'Brien stated that "everything happens for a reason. Koyal George got a lot of work in the Spring. We made the move with him a year ago not really planning on him getting in as much as he did last year, so that was a blessing in disguise. He got a lot of confidence in the Spring.

1 Response to "Tom O'Brien Interview After Practice #3"What year is Cureton? The current Wolfpacker issue lauds our lack of walk-ons in our two-deep 'Organizational Chart.' I do realize that The Wolfpacker is about 2-3 weeks behind the news cycle, but I thought it was an interesting answer, by TOB, after the first 2 1/2 days a practice. I thought that Lucas would be in the mix on the 2-deep by now, but then again, he and Beasley (the other guy that I thought would be in that mix) have only one year in the system under their belts, and may come a long way this year. Look out for Manning though. Maddox will have his hands full trying to fend off Terrell from taking his #1 spot.
Interesting interview (as always)!
It is SO important to have a guy like Koyal George progressing right now. He is a cog in that secondary wheel. If he can shine, we look a lot better at corner. And he is a long guy that can disrupt a lot of passes.
BTW, no knock on our former QB's because they had to learn new systems every year, too. But, it is nice to hear that the continuity in the coaching staff is paying off, and drawing false start penalties should be a thing of the past! These two QB's seem to know where their 'chess pieces' are supposed to go and how to get them there.
