It is interesting to see, and will be in the future, the differences in the Offensive schemes when Russell Wilson is at the helm as opposed to Glennon. TOB/Bible love to play 'Smash Mouth' football, admittedly.

We all know that TOB and Bible collaborated with some colleges out west in their development of this version of the 'Spread Option' that they unveiled at the beginning of last season. It was not surprising to see the change because we had a mobile QB that we didn't want to pigeon-hole in a conventional Offense, and our Offensive Line was not skilled (or deep) enough to win games with that straight forward approach.

But, now we are seeing this staff hold on to what they know. Glennon enters the game and suddenly we are lined up in the "I-Formation?"

Glennon has run a bit of the Spread, but showed quickly that his style is not suited for it. As the O-line improves, and Glennon gets into the picture more, it will be interesting to see the transformation of this team to a more conventional style of Offense. What happens if Russell goes down? Do we immediately make the switch? The upside to that would be that your first opponents wouldn't see it coming. How tough is it for the Linemen to switch it up? Are they still, basically responsible for a very similar "Zone-Blocking" scheme, or are the two Offenses farther apart in philosophy as it pertains to the Line?

One thing is for sure, TOB and Bible have shown the propensity to adapt to their personnel. But, as evidenced in this press conference, Tom loves to play physical football, and he is recruiting for that style. Everett Proctor could throw a wrench into that plan when he returns, as he is much like Wilson. But, he is still listed as "QB/S" with a thin QB core. He very well could end up providing depth in the secondary just as easily.

In the future, we will be O-line University. You don't get there by playing gimmicky football. That crap doesn't translate well on the next level. Unless, of course, you are running the "Wildcat" Offense, and are drafted by the Dolphins! But here, in Raleigh, pretty soon we will be lining them up, and punching them in the mouth. People will be saying the same things about us, that we are saying about Pitt right now. You can even detect a little envy in O'Brien's voice as he talks about that gritty style of play.

    Go Pack!
