NC State vs. Maryland Depth Chart

Depth Chart Notables

-Before this past Saturday's game, the coaching staff decided to lift Jarvis Byrd's redshirt, due to the desperate need in the secondary. He is backing up C.J. Wilson at the Boundary Corner slot.

-This past Saturday, Bobby Floyd got moved to a new position, backing up Audie Cole at the linebacker position. As a result, Brandan Bishop is starting at the Free Safety position with Justin Byers backing him up.

-Dwayne Maddox will be starting at Middle Linebacker again this week for the injured Ray Michel.

-Redshirt Sophomore Henry Lawson has moved into the 2-deep chart, backing up Julian Williams at Left Guard. This is due to the injury that R.J. Mattes suffered in the Florida State game. Andy Barbee moved into Mattes' starting role at Right Guard and Zach Allen moved from Left to Right Guard to back up Barbee.

That is a lot of freshmen in the back 7. Its hard to say it is totally the scheme that is making the defense so bad. I think it is more inexperience than anything, as evidenced by my first comment.

The bowl picture for this team looks very bleak now at best. Oh well, hopefully Russell stays, Toney gets another year of eligibility, Nate comes back healthy and everyone gets stronger through the spring.

Man, how far away does 41-10 seem? It is truly amazing how quickly things change.

    Any post game comments WPH/WPP?

We're uploading Coach O'Brien's press conference video as we speak. He talks a lot about the season as a whole and the challenges this team is facing.

The offense is playing well. When they establish the run early, you open up a lot of options for Wilson and as you can see by the FSU game, when that happens it's hard to stop.

The defense just seems to be either too slow reacting, or just too slow period. I think a lot of it can go back to the loss of Nate Irving. If the offense lost Wilson it wouldn't be nearly as efficient. The same goes with the loss of your 'quarterback' on the opposite side of the ball...your MLB. I think you can also see that with the added pressure mounting of each loss, you have guys thinking more and reacting less (which spells disaster when you're playing zone).

Clem Johnson said yesterday that it's not a matter of work ethic. Practices are hard and people are going 100%, but when it comes to putting it together on Saturdays you have guys playing a bit timid and Clem noted that it is probably the case here.

The depth chart summary reads like a merry-go-round. How will we ever get consistent play with this kind of attrition on the defensive side of the ball???

This is a HUGE hill to climb, and it absolutely MUST start this weekend against Maryland - the best shot at a win to build some confidence for the team.

The only bright spot is that a number of young guys are gaining valuable experience. The problem is that a lot of guys are getting injured so they aren't getting as much experience as they could have had. RJ Mattes, Jeff Reiskamp, Rashard Smith, Mario Carter, Everett Proctor are all big losses for the future progress of the team. Hopefully they all get healthy and come back better next year.

TJ back, that is exciting for someone who is planning to be there and loves to see the KO return.

Couple guys on O Line are on 2 deep organization chart and at the drop of the hat can be in there ready to go- but really Allen and Matthews can play just about everywhere but center.

Hopefully Floyd makes a big jump on the learning curve at SLB. We have got to give Cole a rest but Bobby had it tough against FSU in that new assignment.

I know TJ is on the depth chart, but on TOB's tv show he said that TJ might not be back this year.
