'08 By The Numbers

If you haven't noticed, I'm a little nerdy about history, records, numbers, statistics, etc. After doing a little digging around, here are some pretty eye-popping numbers from last year's 2008 season:

-Russell Wilson became the first freshmen in the history of the ACC (57 years) to earn 1st Team All-ACC Honors at the Quarterback position. He also led the ACC in Passing Efficiency (133.9) and Total Offense (213 yards per game)

-The Pack ranked 8th in the nation in Red Zone Offense Efficiency. They scored 91% of the time they got within 20 yards (27 TD, 13 FG).

-Owen Spencer led the ACC in Yards Per Catch last season with an average of 22.3 yards per grab.

-T.J. Graham's 973 yards accumulated on Kick Returns last year set a school record and was the 3rd highest in ACC history as well.

-Russell Wilson led the nation last year in Interception Avoidance, averaging a measly .36, which is the 2nd lowest mark in ACC history. Wilson will enter the 2009 season having thrown 249 passes consecutively without an interception. Wilson is only 21 passes shy of the ACC record.

-Nate Irving's 4 Interceptions ranked him 4th in the Nation among all Linebackers.

I was unaware and blown away by a couple of these. Let's hear your thoughts.

These stats are amazing! I think that the Red Zone efficiency is mostly about Russell. I'm not sure we even sniffed the 20 yard line with Beck or Evans at the helm.
I'll try to make this as brief as possible. I think that there is a QB revolution happening at NC State. I don't mean to pressure any particular players, or taut them too heavily before they accomplish things. But, we one of, if not the best, Offensive Coordinators in College Football in Dana Bible. He develops these QB's (and WR's) into a highly skilled unit. Philip, contrary to popular belief, does not own all of the records for QB's at NC State. There are Championships to win, records to be broken and accomplishments on the table.
I welcome Russell Wilson into our record books. I dare Mike Glennon to push that envelope. And, I hope Stephen Rivers sees the possibilities at NCSU, and not just a shadow.
BTW, Owen Spencer is a very good reciever, as are the rest of the wide-outs. Under Bible's direction, they will be hitting the record books and piling up the statistics, too!
And, what can you say about Nate Irving? If he stays healthy this year, I don't know if we can keep the NFL from taking him away from Raleigh. Nate is a special player. he also has very special linebackers waiting for their chances to shine.
I really hope that Russell can extend his streak this year. If he can get out of the USC game, I think he could shoot for the national record. Just for kicks, what is the national record, WPP?

Thanks again, WPP. And, Go State!

I love Russell Wilson. It's going to be really nice to have a solid backup this time with Glennon. We win our bowl game last year if not for the horrendous backup QB situation. Not to mention the fact that pretty much every position on the team is better than it was last year. Not only does the N&O have us winning our division, ESPN has us finishing second in the league behind Virginia Tech with a projected Gator Bowl. Not Papa John's, not Car Care... GATOR! And what if we can knock off VT in a neutral site championship game... This next season can't come soon enough.

Sometimes I feel like heading out to the stadium on weekends, and just tailgating! That is pethetic, I know, but I am so freaking ready!

I feel ya ppack, going to state football games is fun, especially now that wilson is QB and the team looks promising.

One of the things people seem to miss is that the one interception Russell threw was a Hail Mary jump ball. That one's not on him (except in the official stats). When he was aiming he didn't miss.
