Pack Picked to Win ACC's Atlantic Division

Now we know you haven't seen this in a while. The N&O released it's predictions for this coming football season and the Wolfpack have been picked as the #1 team in the Atlantic Division. For a program that hasn't sniffed a number 1 prediction in years, it is certainly welcomed news. Here is what JP Giglio had to say:

"Yeah, it's N.C. State.

The Wolfpack has the best quarterback in the conference, two NFL-level game-changers on defense and a smart coach.

Technically, State finished last in the division in '08 but it was only one game behind the winner (Boston College). All six teams finished either 5-3 or 4-4.

Expect the same competitiveness this season. Which means you pick the team with the best QB (his right knee willing) and eight home games."

We too believe the Wolfpack has the opprotunity to do great things this years, but don't we always. This year with the emergence of Russell Wilson and Coach O'Brien beginning to get his players in, it's starting to look a lot more realistic.

Awesome!!! Now lets prove it on the field.

If Russell stays healthy, the sky is the limit! VT will be our toughest game, just looking at it on the surface. The rest are winnable games. The schedule sets up very well, in favor of the Pack. And, the Division is somewhat down. There is a golden opportunity to break through the mire of mediocrity this season, and never look back (so to speak).
Hijack: While we are talking about great football names, ie. Earl Wolff, I think Russell Wilson has the best football name of all-time. Bar-none. Whenever I think of playing football, I think of Russell gear, and Wilson Footballs. I know things have changed in the past 15-20 years, but those are the brands that I remember fondly.
On Topic: I love this article, because it goes to show just why I was excited about expansion in the ACC. NCSU was 1-2 wins away from being in that ACC Championship game...LAST YEAR! that is crazy. But, with a league like the ACC, we are going to have our chances to prove what we have on the field of battle. The ACCCG keeps everything so much more interesting throughout the year. I think we could end up in that game this year, if a lot of balls bounce in our favor. And once you are in that game, you always have a chance to take a trip to the Orange Bowl! Now, let's get this party started, right? Go State!

Imagine a nice win over Carolina in November, and then another win over them in December!

    GO PACK!!!

I can say with the utmost confidence, that we are going to hand it to UNC this year. I can also say, absolutely, that UNC will not even sniff the ACC Championship game. I would love to beat them twice in a year, but they will not have the cake schedule, and/or the offense that they had the benefit of last year. They have lost players at high profile positions, and "attrition" has made room for a lot of highly rated, but young recruits that will not be game ready.
There are a lot of similarities between the Amato era and the Butch era. Whether or not the outcome will be similar, is up for debate. Personally, I believe that Butch will get out while the gettin' is good, in the next few years, before the real program evaluations begin. Again, Thank the Good Lord for Tom O'Brien. He is building us up the right way, producing great players, great young men, and great representatives of our community. Lucky Charms?

I hope you're right, ppack3. I'd love to see Butch be 0-for-ALL against TOB when he leaves!

I think we hand it to Carolina this year, too. I'm trying not to say that too much, because I don't want to jinx it. But I do think we will. Especially with the game being at home.

It's not that I'm cocky about the UNC game, because anything can happen when these two teams suit up. I just think that Carolina is going to be beaten up, and tired as hell by the time they have to come into our den. We got right inside their helmets last year, and as I see it, that's the fastest way to get the bully to stop taking your lunch money.
And, BTW TBKR, I'm not worried about jinxing the game. TOB is our lucky charm. He brings the luck of the Irish with him (along with a pint of Guinness).

Heh heh! I hope you're right. But there's a Bible verse that seems to ring true more often than not. "Pride cometh before a fall."

I don't want my pride in State football to bring them down, hence the jinx.

And like you said, anything can happen when these two meet. I'm sure NOBODY expected to curb-stomp them 41-10 on their own turf, either. I was just HOPING for a close game, and then that happened.

I still THINK we will win, and fairly easy, although surely not as easy as that last game.

Truth, Didn't TOB bring his own 'Bible' with him? Sorry, I couldn't stop my fingers from typing that. Besides, pride and confidence are seperate characteristics. I'm confident in my prediction, but I am in no way insuring that this will be the outcome. That is why they line 'em up on Saturday's (errr...Thursday nights)! We need a few breaks this year, but the schedule looks promising, eight games at the Carter looks promising, and the players/coaches themselves look promising. But, I'm certainly not promising anything, neither are the coaches. I don't think you have to worry about a jinx there, jinxy. Cause like I said, the Irish eyes are 'a smilin' on NCSU. (Hopefully, *kiss rabbit foot*)

Since you put it that way, how can I disagree?

The N&O is on the edge of going bankrupt. It looks like now they're finally trying to rub shoulders with the nc state fan base. If it wasn't for peoples jobs I'd say right now would be a perfect time to unsubscribe.

I wouldn't subscribe to that rag if it was FREE. I canceled my subscription years ago and have NO regrets about it. (I wouldn't mind the Sunday paper, just for the coupons...) Their anti-NC State bias (in my opinion) was so blatant and obvious that I could not justify paying them a dime of my money. And I never will again until they start behaving more like a home team paper. The W-S Journal is more pro-NC State than the N&O and that is just sad.
