On Sunday night the team held a meeting and voted for who they wanted to be their Team Captains for the '09 season. The team selected Jamelle Eugene, Jeraill McCuller and Willie Young to represent the the group. Coach O'Brien believes that the players had good judgment in their voting.
“These three young men are great choices,” said head coach Tom O’Brien. “They have shown great leadership throughout spring practice and in our summer workouts and their hard work and dedication has earned them the respect of their teammates.”
Tom O'Brien has said on numerous occasions that running back Jamelle Eugene is the "energizer bunny." Last season Eugene averaged an impressive 4.7 yards per carry. In 2007 he won the Governor's Award which is handed out to the team's Most Valuable Performer.
Offensive tackle Jeraill McCuller took more snaps than any other player on the offensive side of the ball last season. After starting every game in 2008, McCuller only allowed 2 sacks all season.
Defensive end Willie Young has played more snaps (1,667) than anyone on this years football team. Willie will move into the Top-10 in NC State history this season in both tackles for loss and sacks. Currently his 31.5 tackles for loss rank 11th in school history and his 12.5 sacks rank 15th.
