Earl Wolff: Looking To Pick Up The Beat

Redshirt Freshman Earl Wolff surprised a lot of people in the season opener against South Carolina, including himself. "I think I did pretty good. I helped the team out a lot," Wolff said. "I tackled pretty good. I kind of surprised myself, but I'm just looking to improve next game." Wolff made the most of the opportunity that was given to him, collecting 8 tackles in his first college football game of his career. His total of 8 tackles is even more impressive when you take into consideration that he only played a couple of series.

"I was pretty surprised he put me in during the second quarter," Wolff said. "To tell you the truth I didn't think I was getting in until the second half. I was expecting to maybe play one series, but I played 2 or 3, so I was surprised."

Playing in his first college football game, in front of a packed-out Carter-Finley Stadium, you would imagine that Wolff had some jitters. "I was kind of nervous going into the game," Wolff said. "During kickoff I was kind of hyped up, but I made the first tackle and it kind of broke me in."

Wolff also has a pregame routine that helps calm him down before he steps foot on the field. Different players do different things to prepare themselves for the game. Wolff likes to keep things pretty chill before kickoff, with hopes of picking up the beat when the clock hits zero at the end of the game.

"A lot of people listen to loud music, but before the game when I'm on the bus I listen to some calm slow music, like R&B, but right before the game I bring out my laptop and headphones and watch film of Ed Reed, Sean Taylor and Brian Dawkins," Wolff said. "After the game the music might change, it all depends if we lose or win. I was listening to some R&B after last game, but this week I'm looking to listen to  something a little more upbeat after the game."

This Saturday night, you can bet that Earl Wolff and the rest of the Wolfpack will be looking to pick up the beat.

Thanks for the tackles Mr. Wolff! I can't wait to see you out there knocking some guys around on Saturday night. Go Pack!

I'd say that the Football Camps are working out for us since TOB has been around. First year they spot Earl budding star at DB (not to mention TJ Grahm) and then the following year they follow suit with Rashard Smith from GA.

Wolff has been repeatedly referred to by Coach Reed, the secondary coach, as being very coachable. He always is eager to learn something each day.

Wouldn't be surprised if he picks of a few this year and shows his skills with the ball. Three of our freshman DB's, Wolff, Smith and CJ Wilson, were huge play makers on offense in their prep years.

TOB and Co. can spot talent. It helps to work them out in Raleigh before making an offer. The drills are tests made up by the coaching staff. They test mental toughness and the ability to make the correct decisions, as well as to judge coach-ability. I doubt that Archer was surprised by Mr. Wolff's ability to take instruction. He knew about that characteristic before he offered him a scholarship!
