NC State vs. Boston College: Depth Chart

Depth Chart Notables

-True Freshman Rashard Smith is starting over Justin Byers this week at the Boundary Corner position.

-For the second week in a row the coaching staff has left the starter at the Free Corner position up in the air. DeAndre Morgan and C.J. Wilson will battle it out once again (DeAndre won the battle last week, earning the nod vs. Duke).

I know this is off topic, but what is the status of Roy Mangum. I know he was having grade issues, but now scout shows that we have rescinded his scholarship. We really could use his size and speed in the secondary. If you watched the game against Duke, our current corners are entirely too small and are afraid to tackle (ex. DeAndre Morgan and Justin Byers).

Well I know one thing this BC game cant come fast enough. I promise to everyone that reads this keep positive and believe in TOB because this weekend we are going to be prepared. This weekend is when we start our progression to Florida. We still can win our division. One game at a time and everyone please dont over react about these two past games. As said in quite possibly the best movie of all time "Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on". Lets get after them pack and remember "Dont give up dont ever give up". This season is far from over. GO PACK!!!

TOB has got to make a change on who coaches the defense. The DB's had no clue what to do and looked lost most of the game. This was without a doubt a coaching problem more than talent.

I'm all for being positive and sunshine.

With all that being said I also need to see some improvement in the defense. I hate to say it but we been getting out coached the past two games and this soft zone we continue to play NEEDS TO GO. I believe in the coaching staff but seeing our defense getting beat without a change in defensive strategy is tough to swallow.

Typical so called state fan! its people like you anon that gives of of the rest of us bad names. By the way man up and put a name to the face. If you really r a state fan (which im sure u arent) you should be ashamed of yourself. Do you honestly think anyone in our crappy division is going to go better then 6-2, Doubt that. I bet the winner of our division is 5-3! Do you think that dwelling on the past is going to make us better this weekend. Its people like you that I hate. Matter of fact you are worst then Carowhina or Duke fans. Get off the site if you cant be contructive!!! This is a NC STATE site.

why don't we switch TJ Graham to CB? He's fast, has good size, and we're loaded at WR. He actually doesn't run good routes - actually quick on several routes. he could still return kicks and punts. to me, that seems like the first bit of advice i'd give o'brien. he would not do any worse than our current cb's.

Long time no comment, so howdy y'all.

Glad to see Smith back and starting a CB since he's the best pure playmaker we have at the edge. From my recollection he did an awful job once of breaking down while open field tackling in the Duke game. I have full confidence he will fix his mechanics and start making those plays on a regular basis.

A lot of tackling is confidence with a heavy dose of proper mechanics- from the little amount of prep ball I played some of the most sure tacklers were on the smaller side as long as they were 110% sure of their abilities and sound fundamentally. Rashard is fully confident in himself or else the coaches would have not given him the nod so early in the season.

One big question mark tho it does not show up on the two deep chart. So much Bowens so early in the season? I know we have depth and that we play many offensive sets with three WR's but it has been curious to me just how many plays Bowens has gotten in. Smith and Howard are essentially not playing football right now and my only real concern about this is that RW and Bowens look out of sync with each other. RW has thrown thousands of reps to all our athletic and still relatively young squad of WR's with one exception- #80, Bowen's.

While I realize he needs to get reps in order to get back to old form it still seemed odd that it has been so many this early. I trust TOB and Coach Bible have seen enough in practice to know this put them in the best position to win ball games- that's why they are coaches and I am not- but early season ACC games are precious in the wide open Atlantic Div.

To further beat a dead horse on this subject, it is obvious that Wilson has the timing down on crossing patterns, post or fly routes with Williams, Spencer, Davis and for the most part Graham. RW is like any other great QB who has big time talent- preparation and experience make all the exta difference. From my vantage point it looks like on game day RW and Bowens are just getting acquainted.

Good to visit this site again. Lets hope the Pack team is getting the best week of practice and will give their Coach his first win over BC while getting off the snide in ACC play the same time.

Don't know if mentioned before but I believe over seven grand hwas raised on behalf of the BC LB who was stricken with cancer. Champions on and off the field has really rubbed off on the Wolfpack faithful as well.

Jose! What's up brother? Lives are busy. A hiatus is understandable. Just, don't let it happen again.

I know what you're saying about Bowens. But, take into consideration his ability to block. He was (almost) solely responsible for springing Graham for his only KO return for a touchdown this year. If you go back to the tapes and key on D Bow, you will see some SERIOUS blocking habits that spring running backs for long gains (think Toney Baker's run against Pitt) or WR's yards after their catch. He is fantastic at getting his block on, and he hits hard.

He may not be catching a ton of balls right now, but he has to graduate slowly, catch a few balls and maybe a TD or two, and then the light will come on for him and Russell. Bowens is a special player, and I know that TOB and D. Bible see those things that they don't necessarily highlight on ESPN.

Good to 'see' you again Jose. Don't be a stranger!
