4-Star Safety Amerson Commits!

Safety David Amerson has listed the Wolfpack as his leader for a majority of his recruitment. As of late, some people thought that Amerson's recent visit to Notre Dame might have changed the Safety's mind. Amerson proved that his heart was always with the Wolfpack, committing to NC State tonight.

Amerson leads a stingy defense for the 10-1 Dudley Panthers. Dudley is the #2 seed in the 4-A state playoffs, and will face off against Ben L. Smith High School on Friday night. Amerson was selected to the 73rd annual Shrine Bowl, representing the state of North Carolina. Last season, as a Junior, he tallied 60 tackles and 9 interceptions.

ESPN ranks Amerson as the #14 Safety in the 2010 class (Rivals ranks him #19 and Scout ranks him #56). This young man stands 6'3" and weighs in at 182 pounds. Amerson is tremendously athletic, running a 4.5 40-yard dash, a 36-inch vertical jump and a 455 pound squat max. He also is very intelligent, boasting a 3.5 GPA and a 1310 on the SAT.

This is a huge commitment for Coach O'Brien and his staff. Amerson is the 4th Safety in the 2010 recruiting class for the Pack. Recruiting the state of North Carolina has been one of O'Brien's top priorities since arriving, and the 2010 class is stacked with some of the best talent in the state. With Amerson's commitment, NC State practically has commitments from 4 of North Carolina's top-10 players. With the Wolfpack secondary being an area of concern over the past couple of seasons, it is encouraging to see the commitment of one of the best Safety's in the 2010 class.

ESPN has a free video of Amerson on his profile.

Defensive backfield is going from feast to famine in reverse over the last two recruiting hauls. This one is not official but Ammerson and Johnson are both excellent prospects at Safety who could and either one might up playing as a true frosh.

From what Ive heard and read, Amerson seems more likely to have the opportunity to earn Mins as a fresh more than anyother S we are bringing in. He is athletic, smart, and an outstanding young man. Our def backfeild is really shapping up to do a 180 in the next year or two.

    Def Backfeild '10

    Corners: R. Smith
    J. Byrd
    CJ Wilson
    D. Haynes *Redshirt*
    Safteys: B. Bishop
    E. Wolff
    D. Amerson
    D. Johnson
    DJ Green

Thats alot of good young talent. SOMEONE has to beable to tackle!!

+ 100 on the DJ Green assessment.

My guess is that if we stay 4-3 then he (Green) has SAM LB (Audie Cole position) in the future.

Cole a Jr, Hans Rice a Soph, and either RS or play Green his first year, will finally give this position some depth.

For those who want to know SAM, it is an extra strong safety who is listed as a linebacker on organization chart: a 4-2 with five DB's.

I agree 100% Jose but he will mose def have to put some weight on to play the SAM spot. 18lbs is small for S in the ACC, let alone the SAM linebacker spot. This makes me think he will be redshirted

Pack Leader, 18 lbs is a little light to be playing safety in peewee football. Haha.

On a more serious note, great commitment. I have been hearing a few people here and there talking about switching to a 3-4 defense. Is that what Mike Archer's scheme was at Kentucky or is there some other reason that people are thinking we will switch from the scheme that we are currently running?
