NC State Commits: Week 6

Tony Creecy (WR) - Southern Durham (5-1) and Hillside met on Friday night in N.C. Central's O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium. These two cross-town rivals should battle for the Pac 6 championship at the end of the season, and it was quite a battle on Friday night. Southern Durham's Running Back Desmond Lawrence was the story of the game, scoring all 12 points that the Spartans put up on the board. He ran the ball in from 15 yards out in the first quarter and then returned an interception for 76 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. Southern Durham went on to win 12-7. NC State commit Tony Creecy had 2 receptions for 11 yards in the contest.

Robert Crisp (OT) and Pete Singer (S) - Middle Creek's Quarterback Garrett Leatham put up Tecmo Bowl type numbers against Athens Drive on Friday night. He finished the game with 416 yards passing accompanied by 4 touchdowns. By the end of the night Leatham was just to much for Athens Drive to overcome, losing to the Middle Creek Mustangs 26-46.

Fre'Shad Hunter (DL) - Cary (3-3) was shocked on Friday night, losing to Holly Springs 14-21. With less than a minute to play in the game, Cary was looking to pull some last-minute heroics, perched on their opponents 48 yard line. What the Imps didn't see coming, was their stud Running Back Chapman fumbling the ball, only to be returned by Holly Springs Linebacker Burnette for a touchdown to seal the deal.

D.J. Green (S) - Going into Friday nights game against Bainbridge, Westside (5-0) had only given up 14 points in their first 4 games. That number wouldn't change. Westside posted their 3rd shutout of the season, beating Bainbridge 17-0. NC State commit D.J. Green, who is the captain of this stellar defense that is only giving up 2.8 points per game, grabbed an interception on their own 5-yard line with less than 7 minutes to play in the game. Westside is now #2 in the state of Georgia (4-A).

Thomas Teal (DT) - Marlboro County (5-0) posted its second consecutive shut-out, crushing Dillon 28-0. Marlboro County is ranked #3 in the state of South Carolina (3-A).

Torian Box (OT) - North Clayton (5-0) won their homecoming game against Mt. Zion on Friday night 34-13. North Clayton is ranked #5 in the state of Georgia (4-A).

Tobais Palmer (RB) - Georgia Military College (3-2) won its second straight game this weekend, defeating North Carolina Tech 47-14. NC State commit Tobais Palmer did not play in the contest.

Raynard Randolph (DT) - Hargrave Military Academy (3-1) defeated Frostburg State University 32-6.

A.J. Ferguson (DL) and Tyson Chandler (OL) - Fork Union Military Academy (2-2) lost in a close one to WV Wesleyan 20-22.

I noticed Russell Wilson won the "Performer of the week". Also, checking the national stats, He is 2nd in the nation in TDs thrown, only 1 behind the leader (Taylor Potts from TTU leads the nation w/ 13 TD's and has attempted almost double the passes as Russell!!!). W/ a 170.3 passer rating, that puts him 8th in the nation. Hes 25th in the nation in passing yards (969).

I Honestly believe its about time People realisticly start including his name in for ACC POY, Heisman, because he is consistantly performing as good if not better than your "top qbs". I couldnt find any stats on rushing yards for a qb but no doubt he is high up the list in this category as well.

Also I noticed Willie Young is 10th in the nation w/ 4.0 sacks on the season...

Tony Baker is tied for 11th in the nation for total scoring w/ 42 points (14.0 per game)...

Jarvis Williams is tied for 26th nationally for recieving TD's w/ 3.

NC State is tied for 14th nationally for PTS/G w/ 37.8 and 10th nationally for total points this season...

Just some interesting numbers for the pack this season....

Pack Leader - Those are great stats. Isn't it amazing that we didn't score a single touchdown in the first game, and we are still putting up incredible numbers. People would call that a fluke if we had laid an egg versus Pitt.

That's what is so very encouraging, to me. The Offense has shown that they can put up fantastic numbers against a quality opponent, through two quarters of adversity and in a pressure situation. It isn't a huge surprise considering the ultra-calming demeanor of both TOB and Russell Wilson. I am just used to throwing in the towel after the other team scores 14 points...total. I'm certainly not used to our Wolfpack being able to come back from 14 down late in the game, only to win by a touchdown!

I am having to re-train my brain.

Wake Forest's Defense is not their strong point this year, after much attrition. This weeks game is VERY winnable if we keep up this sot of Offensive production.

And, I'm not putting our defense on a pedestal after giving up 31 points, but with Bishop and Manning roaming around the Defensive Backfield, I believe we have found a starting rotation at those two positions that would add attitude and energy. Ray Michel did a great job of making sure Terrell made his pre-snap adjustments, and he turned into a ball hawk after the snap. go back and look at the tape. You'll find that T. Manning was in on anything that came remotely close to his side of the field! he almost ran down that long Pitt TD pass from the opposite side-line, and was stride for stride with Wolff. And I don't know if he even played in the first half. I don't know how the announcers didn't mention his name on Saturday, until he made the Tackle for Loss just before Bishop's two great plays on the last Pitt drive. Get this, he didn't even get credit for a tackle (let alone a TFL) in the box score! WTF! Go back and watch it. He should have gotten credit for at least 2 Tackles (1 TFL) and one assited Tackle, along with at least 2 Special Teams Tackles. This is why I DVR the games. I am a freak. T. Manning is freakier!

I agree that Russell should be on some Heisman watch lists. There are several problems with that actually happening, though. I don't know that our administration is prepared to promote Russell, for one. the South Carolina game didn't do Russell any favors with the peeps out on the left coast either. There are not many chances to show voters from out West what you can do, and believe it or not, that is important. But, if Russell keeps playing like this throughout the year, and makes a name for himself, then I could see his name on everyone's short list (pardon the pun) next year, for sure. Especially if he retains his streak to some other-worldly number!

On that note, Pack Leader and WPH's, have either of you seen any numbers representing the number of COMPLETIONS without an interception, as it relates to national records? Why does this number never come up in the MANY references to Russell's streak?

PPack & Wolfranger: I havnt seen any stats on the # of completions w/o an int but it would be very interesting to see how Russell stacks up. One would think he would already have this stat or be extremely close. Ill do some digging and see if I cant come up w/ something soon.

Here's the link to NCAA football recordholders. Passing records start on page 7. I see the records for attempts without an interception, but not number of completions between interceptions. There are a few records for lowest career interception % that might be in reach.
